Residential solar / Chelsea

Residential solar in Chelsea.

Chelsea's townhouses, terraces and mews houses are not typical solar roofs, which is why the design matters. REX surveys, designs and installs residential solar and battery storage for homeowners across SW3 and SW10, with a careful look at both the roof and the planning rules.

Your Chelsea project

Start with what the property needs.

The useful result is a system you understand: how it fits, what it is expected to generate and where a battery may help.

A design for the building

Townhouses, terraces and mews all differ. Each gets its own layout.

Flat roofs and parapets considered

Hidden roof areas can suit panels. We check access, loading and drainage.

Storage where space allows

Equipment space in a townhouse is limited. We find out what works.

Plans for the property

Roof terraces, extensions and refurbishments are included in the design.

Careful installation planning

Access in tight streets is arranged before work begins.

Straight figures

Assumptions are explained in plain terms.

Local considerations

A closer look at Chelsea.

Solar panels mounted on a tiled roof

Townhouses, terraces and flat roofs

Many Chelsea homes have parapets, mansard roofs, roof terraces or flat sections. These can be good places for panels that are barely visible from the street, but they need the right mounting and a proper check of access and loading.

King's Road to the river

Chelsea runs from the King's Road to Cheyne Walk and the Embankment, past the Royal Hospital. Streets are narrow and access can be tight, which affects how scaffolding and deliveries are planned.

Why REX

From the survey to a clear proposal.

Send the address, a recent bill or usage summary, roof photos and, for a flat, the freeholder or building details. We will review them and survey the roof. The proposal sets out the layout, equipment, expected generation, access and the work included.

Before you decide

Solar questions in Chelsea.

Is solar possible on a listed townhouse?

Listed building consent is needed and is not always granted. Talk to the council first. We can discuss which roof areas are most likely to be acceptable.

Can panels go on a flat roof?

Often yes, on a frame. Weight, drainage, access and any roof terrace need checking.

I live in a flat. Can I have solar?

The roof usually belongs to the freeholder, so approval comes from them. Get in touch and we can talk through what is realistic.

Do you cover Fulham and Kensington?

We survey and install across London. Send your postcode to confirm.

Is my street in a conservation area?

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea says nearly three quarters of the borough is protected by 38 conservation areas, including the Chelsea Conservation Area. A conservation area does not automatically rule out solar, but extra rules apply. Check your address with the council. REX has a guide to solar in London conservation areas.
