All-in-one solar + battery

Installation method, capacity, output and expansion options depend on the exact UK model. Battery systems that connect to your home's fixed wiring are a separate installation: the connection must be made by a qualified electrician.

Full conventional solar + battery

Larger rooftop arrays with an inverter specced to the panels. The right call for bigger homes and heavier usage.

Ways to use it

Solar panels with battery, or battery on its own

Add storage to existing solar

Already have panels? A battery stores what you generate instead of sending it straight back to the grid, so more of your own power gets used in the evening.

Battery without solar

No panels yet? A battery can charge on a cheaper overnight tariff and supply some of your daytime electricity, depending on its capacity and your usage. Adding solar later may be possible, subject to the system design, compatibility and a site assessment.

Solar and battery together

New panels and an all-in-one battery fitted as one project, designed together from the start. The most common route for homes starting fresh.

Straight answers

Plug-in solar, batteries and installation: your questions

Are plug-in solar panels legal in the UK?

Since 27 August 2026, qualifying solar-only plug-in devices can be used in England, Scotland and Wales. This route does not currently cover Northern Ireland or devices with integrated battery storage. Check that the exact model meets UK requirements and register it before use.

Do EcoFlow STREAM and Anker SOLIX systems need an electrician?

A qualifying solar-only plug-in device can be self-installed by following the manufacturer's instructions. Battery systems that connect to your home's fixed wiring are a separate installation: the connection must be made by a qualified electrician.

Do I need G98 for plug-in solar?

Qualifying plug-in solar devices must be registered before use. Hardwired solar and battery installations follow a separate network-connection process (G98/G99 checked for the specific system).

Is there a limit on how much power these units can put out?

EcoFlow STREAM, Anker Solarbank and Anker SOLIX X1 are different product ranges. Installation method, capacity, output and expansion options depend on the exact UK model.

Can I put plug-in solar panels on my roof?

Check mounting, property suitability and any landlord, freeholder or planning permissions first.

How many plug-in solar panels can I have?

Only one qualifying plug-in solar device is currently allowed per home, max 800W output. That device may include more than one panel; connecting several plug-in devices together is not allowed. Check mounting, property suitability and any landlord, freeholder or planning permissions first.

How much does a plug-in solar or all-in-one battery system cost?

Costs depend on the equipment, mounting and electrical work required. Ask REX for a quote for your property.

EcoFlow vs Anker: which is better?

EcoFlow STREAM, Anker Solarbank and Anker SOLIX X1 are different product ranges. Installation method, capacity, output and expansion options depend on the exact UK model.

Does REX supply the equipment or just install it?

Both. We supply the system and install it, so there is one team responsible for the whole job, from specifying the right size to commissioning it in your home.
